My Dangerous Passion

Right from historic times show of passion or great desire is often admired. People without passion for anything are seen as being laid-back, lukewarm or uninteresting, in fact unambitious. However, being passionate or compulsively drawn to a person, or goal or habits can be disastrous. It may not only induce you to act irrationally, but can also make you to be hopelessly oblivious of your personal safety.
Extreme passion can manifest in three ways:

DESPERATION
Desperation is an emotional push. A desperate person loses ability to internally evaluate situations, or even contemplate actions critically before before taking a plunge. Desperation emanates from a strong inclination to accomplish a particular task or attain some status or position. It is often egotistically driven. Here, one can't separate self from his ambition. Such fusion of self and the goal of pursuit makes a desperate person to care less about morality, ethics, personal safety, since he/she has reduced his essence and worth to the attainment of a set goal or position. A desperate person feels he is doomed if he fails to achieve what he/she sets out to accomplish.

OBSESSION
Obsession is a mild form of or early stage of neurosis. Obsession can be worse than desperation. A person obsessed has his/her mind preoccupied with the thoughts of the object of obsession to the exclusion of anything else. You need to watch your attention meter. Try taking a balanced view of everything and try not to form an exaggerated opinion of anyone or anything. No matter how much you are attracted, in need of, in admiration of anyone, always ensure not to let go of your individuality. Sometimes you need to take an impersonal view of the things in your world.

ADDICTION
Addiction here does not refer to habitual dependence on drugs and other 'hooking' substances. Addiction is partly a form of habit that grows into intense obsession accompanied by an abnormal frequent engagement in a particular act. Addiction is often long-lasting and hard to break off from. An addicted person is totally overwhelmed to refuse the urge to engage in the act he/she is addicted to. No matter what how noble any activity may be it is never wise to allow oneself to be addicted to it. Addiction renders people redundant and makes a person not to function well in other aspects of life.
