President Jonathan Appoints Ado Bayero As New NPA Boss

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of Mr Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero, as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

Mr Sanusi, a lawyer, from Kano State takes over from Mallam Habib Abdullahi, who has been relieved of his appointment as Managing Director of the NPA.

Togo President-Faure Gnassingbe Wins Election For Third Term Run

Incumbent Faure Gnassingbe has been announced as the winner of Togo’s presidential election after the electoral commission finally released results.

Faure won 58.75% of the vote, with main opposition leader Jean-Pierre Fabre getting 34.95%. External observers from ECOWAS and the African Union described the elections as free and fair.


Faure Gnassingbe came to power in 2005, and has since won two elections to remain in power. He’s the son of Eyadema, the military dictator who ruled Togo for decades after seizing power in a military coup in 1967.

The Supreme Court will hear arguments beginning Tuesday in four cases that may determine whether same-sex couples have the right to marry, thrusting the issue of gay marriage into the 2016 presidential race.

Most Americans support gay marriage. According to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, a record-high 6 in 10 voters support same-sex marriage, up from 56 percent last June. But the same survey found 63 percent of Republicans oppose allowing gay couples to marry.

Oil Prices Fall To $62 On A Strong Dollar

Oil prices fell towards $62 a barrel on Monday on a strong dollar and as Saudi Arabian Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi said production would stay around 10 million barrels per day (bpd) in April.

Brent crude LCOc1 was trading down $1.20 at $62.25 by 1147 GMT, down from an intraday peak of $64.34. U.S. crude for May delivery CLc1 was down 74 cents at $55 a barrel, down from an early high of $56.65.

Egypt’s first democratically elected President "Mohammed Morsi" Sentenced To Twenty Years In First Trial

The ousted President was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison Tuesday on charges of inciting violence and facilitating the killing and torturing of protesters outside the presidential palace in December 2012.

The verdict is subject to appeal.

Polls: Ghanaian president lauds Jonathan’s maturity

 
President John Mahama of Ghana on Tuesday lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat in the March 28 presidential elections, saying he displayed great sign of maturity.

Nigerian Consul-General in South Africa, Amb. Uche Ajulu-Okeke, said on Sunday that Nigerians lost more than N21m Rand (1.2m) in the on-going xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Ajulu-Okeke told the News Agency of Nigeria by phone from Johannesburg, South Africa, that the loss included looted shops, burnt shops, two burnt mechanic workshops, 11 burnt cars and two stolen cars, among others.
