ECOWAS Chairman Commends Jonathan’s Statesmanship

President of Ghana and the current ECOWAS Chairman, Mr John Mahama, has joined world leaders and political observers in commending President Goodluck Jonathan for the statesmanship he displayed by congratulating the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari after the presidential elections, describing the action as a show of maturity.

Mr Mahama said he was in the Presidential Villa in his capacity as the ECOWAS Chairman to extend his commendation and congratulations to the Nigerian people following a successful elections.

He observed that what has happened in Nigeria would go a long way to consolidate the democratic process.

He noted that Nigeria is very important to the ECOWAS subregion as well as the African continent and prayed that the transition programme on May 29 would be hitch free.

He recalled that he was in Nigeria just before the elections to show solidarity with Nigerians and prayed that the peace that prevails in the country following the elections would endure.

According to him Nigeria and Ghana share almost the same views on international issues and will continue to share the same relationship in the future.
