Ondo State deputy governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi
A group, Concerned Ondo State Youths, has called on the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Alli Olanusi, to resign honourably from office.
The youths said this during a peaceful protest to the Governor’s Office on Wednesday to demand the exit of Olanusi as deputy governor of the state.
The group’s spokesperson, Akintunde Lawal, said the defection of Olanusi to the All Progressives Congress would hinder the development being recorded by the Dr. Olusegun Mimiko-led administration in the last six years.
The group alleged that the deputy governor was aspiring to become the governor of the state and that Olanusi had hoped that the APC would win the majority seats in the last Saturday’s Assembly election in the state.
He said, “The deputy governor defected to APC just some hours to the general election thinking that the APC will have majority seats in the Ondo State House of Assembly to enable him become the next governor of Ondo State. But we the youth of the state rose up to the occasion and voted massively for the PDP candidates and the result is the demonstration of our love for the governor.”
Insisting that the deputy governor must resign, the group said he should be impeached if he refused to leave honourably.
The Chief of Staff to Mimiko, Dr. Kola Ademujimi, while receiving the youths thanked them for their support and for voting en mass for the Peoples Democratic Party candidates in the state House of Assembly election, noting that their support would spur the government to perform better.
Ademujimi said, “If a performing government is voted out, it will discourage performance. That you appreciate the excellent performance of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and you voted for the candidates of his party shows that your support for the success of his government is irreversible.
“The result of the election is an encouragement for the present administration and also for the incoming administration.”
